NHL front runner to buy Coyotes

Reinsdorf is out and Bettman is in to buy the team...

When the NHL buys the team it would make it much easier to contract the team and then open up an expansion bid for more money for KC, Vegas, Portland, or Hamilton.

Some comments being made too that mayeb if NHL buys the team, they go and sell it to Reinsdorf. The circus continues (I have a picture in my head of Bettman being the GM - etc. making trades and Daly behind the bench).

Pretty much the last ditch effort to keep the Yotes from going to Ballsillie - but one that is likely to work. Provided the NHL is willing to pony up sufficient funds to assuage the creditors I can't see how the Judge will prefer Ballsy's bid to the NHL's.

Ballsy's had a good ride, and provided endless hours of entertainment as he makes the NHL and Bettman twist in the wind, but I think the ride is officially over.

Legally what happens if the NHL buys the team and then turns around and sells it to say Bruckheimer in Vegas or Allen in Portland or even a different owner in Hamilton...

If the team was losing 30 million a year before with fan\corporate support, what will it lose now that the fans and corporate support has disapeared?

You'd think Ballsillie could call foul ... but who knows. Maybe our league lawyer has an idea? Maybe if the NHL continues to lose a gazillion dollars on all this, the collective owners/governnors will finally smell the coffee. Failing that, if they try to limit player salary increases at the next bargaining agreement - the Players Association would have every right to say - no way, you boneheads would have had the money if not for Phoenix (normally, I'm extremely anti-union and I hate the Players Association, but in this case they'd have my support).
