Quote of the Day

"This whole thing strikes me as silly anyway. Two years from now, when Kevin Lowe is the VP of Remembering the Eighties and someone (competent?) is running the show, I’d suspect that the Oilers management will be happy not have Nylander around pulling down $4.75 or whatever he got from Washington. The only downside I can see is that I pretty much have to withdraw my comments about them seeming to have a plan. I think that they got lucky here. Maybe it’s for the best that their attention was diverted from spending money on UFA’s for the past few days - I’d hate to see what they could have done with that money."

EXACTLY - whine all you want, but you got screwed out of they guy we lovingly refer to as 'Balsa-Man'.

He seemed an odd fit for the Oil in a lot of respects. Tough as balsa, true. An elite passer, ok but they need a finisher for Hemsky not another player looking for the perfect pass - that's Hemsky's MO. And he's a pivot - when they have Nilson, Schremp and now Gagner coming down the line.

From a pool perspective, he's a much better fit in Washington dishing to Ovechkin and mentoring Backstrom while relieving the pressure to be the "go to" guy right away.

If Washington interfered with the process, the Oil may get a 2nd rounder out of all this (and some $ from the Nylander camp) and be better off on all counts.

BTW, why aren't we jumping up and down on the Owen Nolan signing. Power forward, gritty Keanan/Sutter type player with a nose for the net and now fully healed. I thought you would be crowing about this.

Nolan isn't exactly the reason the Flames fans should be cheering deliriously - that would be re-upping Iggy and Regehr to longer term deals!

Something that Oiler mgt/fans wouldn't know about (see: Smyth, Ryan).

Nylander has played healthy for awhile now... although he got too much money. As a Flames fan I am both laughing at all of Oiler's woes the past while as well as sort of feeling sorry for them / regretting that they will make the Battle of Alberta kind of a joke in the Flames favor ;-)

Unfortunately there hasn't been a real Battle of Alberta since 1991 Playoffs, the Oilers won.

It was close a couple of years ago but the Flames choked against the Ducks so the battle was postponed again.
