Well DVM, too bad, for all the work he did for your franchise, Nick Lidstrom retires as a Shadowmen, hehe...

1st Ballot HOF, but wherein the top 5 defencemen of all-time? Behind Orr, Robinson and any one else?

Not sure he'd be behind Robinson in my books, and I love Big Bird. I have Lidstrom as Orr's partner on the blueline of the NHL's First Team All-Time All-Star Team.

He was simply dominant. Congrats to Nick and to the Red Wings - always good to see a player spend his time with but one NHL team.

In the FunHL, Lidstrom wore a few jerseys, even as an FP. Drafted as the 19th FP by the Great Whites in the second round of the FunHL's first FP draft, he is the last of the first crop of FPs to depart. Only three others (Jagr, Brodeur and Selanne) are even still playing in the NHL with all three having previously been dropped as FPs.

The following season he was starting as an FP with the Edge, the next with the Wolves, the next two with the Highlanders before becoming a permanent fixture with the Personal Vendetta and only finally ending his distinguished FunHL career with the Shadowmen near the end of this season.

I have him tied with Ray Bouque and Paul Coffey and ahead of Robinson, Shore, etc.
