Curiously the only person who thinks I should take Lecavalier...is me. Everybody else picked a different option (including two recommendations that I blow my brains out by drafting Malkin).
All of which leads to me think that if everyone thinks I should do something else, I am probably on the right track.

Hey, why would anybody want you to do the 'right' thing?? ;-) All joking aside about taking Malkin now - the other options all have some validity. Taking any of Lecavalier, Nabokov or Datsyuk as an FP will give you a good return when you trade that guy or Heatley prior to making Malkin an FP. Option #1 is also interesting - the question is how valuable of an asset(s) along with Jagr to you trade to get someone like Elias, Hejduk, Sakic etc. for one year. As to taking Datsyuk just so Darrell doesn't have a monoploy in Detroit... if you think Lecavalier is the better player, then who cares?? Oh the fun of trying to make the best decision. While doing that - want to talk trade?
Or like Mike suggests - if the stress is too much then trade Malkin now (or even Heatley) for a lesser FP + assets. Problem over with. You have 2 excellent FPs and assets + don't have to worry about trading an FP sometime before 09-10 ED.
No sympathy from me as last year I had the Neidermeyer situation but not the enviable position of drafting first overall. So just suck it up and stop complaining about the glorious choice (of which none are really wrong) you have to make.
Having traded for Elias, you get him in rnd 9/10 and get to pick lecav., dats. or nab. with the 1st pick.
