Rule Proposal #4- Wavier Wire Drops Early

Dan’s suggestion that we make our Waiver Draft drops early. This would require an edit to Rule 27 to simply state that the drops are to be made “The Thursday prior to each Waiver Draft…” instead of the current “At the start of each Waiver Draft…”.

To make it more precise: Waiver draft cuts must be announced (finalized) by midnight on the night of the Thursday preceding the WD. Trading is still allowed, but only using players on the protected rosters, since the cut players are considered "gone". No changes to drop lists on WD day allowed (else defeats the purpose)

I support this but still think we may want to allow for an exception on account of injury occuring between Thursday and the Saturday WD.

I would rather go all the way and suggest that the protected list be submitted with the lineup the week of the waiver draft. If we fail to recieve a list we use the last lineup submitted. Call it 'List Week 1 and 2'.

If the injury gods roar in the few days after you submit and before the draft, so be it. A trade moratorium would only apply to non-protected list players. Call it 'FUNHL Contract Purgatory'.

Thoughts?

Well the last line-up doesn't identify which additional players are exposed.

Unfortunately, it really is all or nothing. We either have a cast in stone deadline after which there is no trading, or we allow it to continue. Given the use of IR, including a clause about injury isn't promising. Don't forget, you only need to submit a standard list of protected/dropped. If the injury gods strike, you can always ADD a drop (ie more than required) on WD day. The only downside is you can't then keep a guy you were going to drop in his stead as he's already dropped. I think Thursday night midnight (MST) is close enough to WD to be safe. BTW, are we still planning 2 WDs or 1???

Opposition noted, just be aware that we will almost certainly face such a situation by the first WD - the hockey gods are good for it I'm sure.

As for two WDs or one, I don't think we have a formal proposal to change the number. In any event, I support having two WDs.

I can handle Friday noon as a cut-off. Main thing is that it is final. With weeks 10 and 19 as WD weeks, how many weeks are there in total (and how many of those are partial weeks due to start of season, end of season, all star break etc)?
