1) Which NHL player leads the league in Plus-Minus currently?
So most voters went with either high scoring teams (eg TB)
or teams with stellar goaltending (Mtl, NYR and to a lesser extent Chi and
StL). So with the correct answer coming from Montreal, currently placed 21st out of 30 for Goals For,
clearly the defensive benefit of Carey Price makes a huge difference.
Interesting that two TB players garnered a total of 3 votes while the third,
Kucherov got no love despite being in second for Plus-Minus.

2) At present, which NHL team(s) have the most players with 25 or more goals?
Full marks to the majority of voters who correctly
identified the Tampa Bay Lightning as a team with a solid number of 25 goal
scorers, specifically three. At the time of the poll, Stamkos, Johnson and
Kucherov all had exactly 25 goals. What no-one correctly identified though, was
the other team with three 25 goal scorers at the time, namely Columbus,
with Foligno, Johansen and Hartnell! As an FYI, Pittsburgh had 2 (Malkin and
Crosby) while St. Louis had 2 (Tarasenko and Backes). Other teams with 2
included Dallas, Calgary, Chicago, and San Jose.

3) Which NHL team currently averages the most goals scored per game?
Most were on track here, picking the Lightning as the
leading team putting pucks in the net. They still sit almost 10 goals for ahead
of second place Dallas. St. Louis, NY Islanders and NY Rangers round out the
top five.
4) Which NHL team currently leads the NHL in PIM per game?
Most were bang on with this one too, with Pittsburgh getting
the most sin bin time, followed by Winnipeg. Only these two teams sit above
1000 PIM so far on the season. And while the Pens lead in game misconducts,
Columbus leads in major penalties. Go figure.
5) Which player in the 2014-15 season had the most points in a single calendar month?
And
6) How many points did that player have in that stellar month?
This was the stat that caught my attention and prompted this
little quiz, as it caught me by surprise. For those who may have heard the same
discussion on the Fan 960 or the blog where it was discussed, it would have
been an easy one, but I would never have gotten it right myself if asked the
day before. The winner? Our own Jiri Hudler, despite sitting 8th in
season points, managed to put together the hottest calendar month in March of
2015 where he amassed 24 points! Congrats to the three who got it right!
7) After Carey Price, which goalie has the next best Save % so far this year?
Again no putting much past this crew of hockey savvy gents,
most of whom correctly identified Devan Dubnyk as the likely candidate. I got a
good chuckle out of hearing commentators reviewing the Edmonton situation
saying that the biggest hole they need to plug to properly rebuild is in goal!
8) Which three rookies have the most points on the season so far?
Well no surprise everyone included Flames breakout Johnny
Gaudreau on this list. Most also correctly identified Forsberg as being in this
group which as the most often talked about would be Calder hopeful is hardly
surprising (though my money’s on Johnny Hockey). Opinions differed on who
should round out the trio, with the majority tagging Aaron Ekblad for the
honours. Actually it is the Senators upstart youngsters hot on the heels of the
top two, led by Mark Stone who rounds out the top three.
Thanks everyone for playing along. Comments, opinions and
sequels welcome!
Dan
