Well WD1 is upon us all...stats are more or less caught up, wd1 drops are due but these waiver drafts can be deceptive! One makes a wish, a pick and the evil Jinn (above) rather than nice Genies come to wreak havoc on your team...

Beware of your choices! Be Careful who you drop.

Week 9 LineUps are due Today...

WAIVER DRAFT 1 - Sunday Dec. 4, 2011

So, via revised consensus, Sunday, Dec 4th will be the dated for WD1...

Time will be at 11 AM MST.

BECAUSE OF THE SUNDAY WD1, FINAL WD1 DROP LISTS ARE DUE BY SATURDAY, DEC 3RD AT NOON.

WD1 TRADE MORATORIUM ALSO OCCURS AT THAT TIME AND ENDS ONCE WE START WD1...

PROVISIONAL DROP LISTS WITH YOUR WEEK 9 LINE-UPS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

NOW THAT WE HAVE OFFICIAL WEEK 7 STATS, AVERY-L NYR IS AWARDED TO MIKE G AND THE TEMPLAR FOR WEEK 9 SUBMISSIONS...

BY THE WAY, BRAVO! TO DOUG, FOR HIS MASTERFUL CATCH-UP AND THE ORDER FOR WD1 WILL BE BASED AS PER USUAL ON THE UPCOMING WEEK 8 STATS!

JUST TO REVIEW:

Hi Cam,

Thanks for the endorsement of my interpretation.

There was some suggestion that we may want to revisit the waiver-wire rules in the off season and that may be a good idea but for now, thanks everyone for chipping in while I’ve been away. I normally don’t have the stats going until about week 4 but this year I will be a bit behind – sorry. That said, thanks Brian for helping out as you have been. I can say that I have been able to get the stats captured on time from Yahoo so once the spreadsheet is up and running I should have the right data to include, which is good, and hopefully we won’t have the same problems that we had last year with CBSportsline.com

One suggestion that Bob made that I want to put out there to also think about for next year would be changing the week start from Mondays to Wednesdays. We have Mondays as our week start because that was the “start” of the week when the stats would come out in the paper on Tuesday – as of Sunday evening. Talk about a relic from the past. Given that Mondays are frequently holidays with games starting in at noon, the idea of moving the start of the FunHL week to the middle of the week so that weekend injury updates are out, work holidays don’t interfere with internet access, NHL schedules line-up, etc. makes some sense to me and I just wanted to float the idea now so it doesn’t get lost.

Anyhow, up to my eyeballs in the work that I had left behind but wanted to pop in and let you know that I have survived my trip and look to get cracking on the stats here ASAP.

Subject: Week 3 Stats + Waiver wire results

Ok, I think I have a grip on this now having read Doug's explanation below:

- Dan gets both Filpulla and Gagne, as he bid on both and is the lowest team in the standings, and as such conditional bids aren't necessary given both players bid on are at different positions.

- Collin gets Steen (only bidder)

- The DC should review the language of the covenant on this issue and make a clarification reccomendation to be voted upon at next Entry draft.

- Given I and Doug are on the Dc (as statistician) barring an objection from Bob (unlikely based on my conversation with him the other night), or Mike Getta, the third member (sic). the DC effectively endorses Doug's evaluation/reading of the relevant rules on the matter. If there is an objection to his interpretation please let me know asap.

- Thanks should go to Brian for handling the waiver wire/stats in Doug's absence, and for his dilligence in trying to follow a tricky set of rules.

Again the GW's get Filpulla and, as the only bid, the Edge get Steen. No the Bladerunners do not win a bid here.

Waiver Draft pre-offers

Hello all,

The Waiver Draft is coming, and I'm just thinning out the weeds in the garden. If anyone wants one of the following players--as opposed to waiting to see if they'll land in your lap, I'd be happy to send them your way for... say... a 3rd PrD in 2008.

[ed.--I feel like the junk lady in Labyrinth]

LW: Modin, CLB RFA, 4 points, 4 PIM, (Injured with "Back Spasms")
C: Zubrus, NJ RFA, 12 points, 4 PIM--be generous with your offers.
RW: Walker, CAR RFA, 3 points 6 PIM, (Injured with "Torn Cartilage in Chest") [I will be attempting to waive Walker for the Selanne contract next week]

And Gotham City's Finest:

D: Michalek, PHX RFA, 2 points, 10 PIM
D: Wideman, BST RFA, 4 points, 12 PIM
D: Staios, EDM RFA, 4 points, 26 PIM--be generous with your offers
D: Brewer, STL RFA, 4 points, 19 PIM

G: Toskala, TOR RFA, 3.25 GAA (It's like you're not playing a goalie at all!)

By the way, I'm happy to trade my picks too, for upgraded forwards, or out and out thugs, but that's usually a more popular offer near WD2. I'll be happy to hear from you.

Richard.

Trade Guidelines: Rule Interpretation

Can someone please confirm the rules say that we are unable to trade things non-FUNHL related, and the only picks we can trade are Prospect Draft picks, because those are the only drafts you don't have to participate in completely.

A trade possibility has entered my vision where it would be very convenient to trade some of my WD picks as a bonus incentive to help this trade happen. I've seen this situation arise at the end of an ED ("All I have to do is promote prospects, anyone you want me to draft for you now? I'll do it for your 3rd PrD next year") and it's overlooked as far as rules are concerned.

What I have in mind would be doing a trade now, perhaps unseemingly favouring the Lost Boys. At the WD I'd use, say, my top 2 WD picks for whoever the other GM identified at that time, in exchange for their bottom 2 picks for whatever dregs I identified at the same positions at that time--right after the WD a second trade is announced, involving these 4 players, essentially "righting" the first trade. It seems to me there's no practical way for the league to stop this, especially with the draft not happening face to face. Both of us would have completed the draft as per the rules: the only evidence it might have happened would be two potentially lopsided trades on either side of the WD--and there's no rules against making stupid trades.

But, rather than viewing rules as a set of obstacles to get around on my path to glory and gloating, what's the spirit of the rules got to say with regards to this particular type of trading? I'd rather be upfront with all the GMs and show you what I'm trading than hide it over time. Even if it's "wrong"; is there any practical way of stopping me/us?

Also, we're changing the poker-chip system for next year's ED, right?

WD1 & ED2008 Lottery

Hello all,

Bob tells me that the WD has been moved deeper into December. I did not see an easy way of accomodating it on my schedule when it was December 1, and December 8 puts it into the "not going to happen" range. I have a very busy month coming up, and I will likely be out of town.

The good news is I am mildly obsessive about statistics and spreadsheets, and more than happy to put one together to let the league-robot draft for me. Do we have a designated league-robot, so I can discuss what is going to be most reasonable and readable? (Bob has volunteered to verify the accuracy of the league-robot on my behalf.)

Also, when will I know who is waiving whom?

Finally--because it's not worth beating a horse unless it's dead--I would like to retool our algorithm for the ED lottery in 2008 so it reflects how many points a team finished behind first place, rather than what slot they happened to fill in the points table.

Ideally this will encourage everyone to play as best they can right up to the end of the season, and, much like the "tie" points in the Challenge cup--which the league approved in September--it will reflect occasions when two teams are extraordinary close.

I would appreciate it if this could at least be discussed by the league so I can get a feeling for what reception is like out there. My proposed formula to generate chips--I'm open to discussing it--is:

Chips = [('Team's finishing points' - 'Herbivore finishing points') / 25] + 1 , round down.

and the herbivore winner's would be: Predator winner's chips + 1.

Is there anyone strongly opposed?
Is more lobbying necessary?
Are there any other options?

Please discuss.

Richard
