is Nash and Gaborik even 1st rd players anymore? They were at one time but i think they both need new scenery to really make it to that next lvl. But what do i know i have tanguay and sundin as fps...
I have both Nash and Gaborik as potential FPs based on;
- where they were drafted
- youth
- potential
Gaborik in particular is intriguing in that his stats weren't great this year in part because he missed so much time with injury. Talk to Doug though, the Highlanders rode the red-hot Gaborik's offense all the way through the stretch drive.
Rob makes a good point as well. Lecavalier may not make it to a GM doing FP replacement. Which is why there should always be a back up plan(s).
My personal preference is for purely economic reasons to trade for a new FP rather than draft one (in other words, it costs less).
In the case of Heatley (who I admittedly drafted) I had him as an RFA so it was possible for me to match him wherever I happened to be in the ED and guaranteed I wouldn't lose him to someone else. I did lose Luongo (also an RFA) in that draft though (to Bob - of course), but that was a price I was willing to pay.

Assuming of course I do not win the lottery and take him first overall.
